High school basketball teams from Juneau, Skagway and Craig played on Petersburg’s home court at its third annual invitational Jan. 16 through Jan. 18. Petersburg’s varsity Vikings teams won two out of six games during the tournament. Coaches say the players are focused on building confidence, and they’ve improved in just a few weeks.
Petersburg Borough Assembly to decide on bonds for school upgrades

Petersburg’s borough assembly will decide if the borough can issue bonds to fund improvements to its public school facilities during their meeting on Jan. 21.
Full funding expected for haul-out project in Petersburg

A multi-million dollar project for a small boat haulout a few miles south of Petersburg is now fully funded. The long-anticipated project at Scow Bay is getting a nearly $9 million grant from the federal Department of Transportation. That’s in addition to the millions of dollars the department promised the project last year.
